Pay Range
The pay range for this position is between $29.00 – $45.00.
Starting wage may vary based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, the position being offered, location, education, training, and/or experience. The Home Depot offers additional competitive and non-financial benefits, which may include a performance-based bonus program or a profit sharing program depending on position.
Position Purpose:
Returnship Apprentice – Software Engineering
Are you ready to relaunch your tech career? Our Returnship Program is a 24-week, guided training and immersion experience designed for former experienced (mid to senior-level) software engineers returning to the workforce after a career break of 2–5 years.
The program begins with a 12-week skills refresh boot camp, featuring a personalized learning plan to help you rebuild confidence and sharpen your technical skills. This is followed by a 12-week team placement for hands-on job shadowing and real-world experience.

Key Responsibilities:
- 20% Solution Development
- Use critical thinking to approach problems and create software application solutions
- Collaborate with OrangeMethod students and teachers on software curriculum projects
- 20% Software Development
- Work both independently and collaboratively via pairing to create secure, reliable, scalable software solutions
- Document, review, and ensure that all quality and change control standards are met
- 60% Learning
- Participate in learning activities around modern software design and development core practices (communities of practice)
- Work under the direction and guidance of the OrangeMethod instructors to build well-rounded skillsets in server-side and client-side software engineering
- Proactively view articles, tutorials, and videos to learn about new technologies and best practices being used within other technology organizations
- Review and discuss code to understand best practices and design patterns
- Increase business acumen by learning about other parts of the business
Direct Manager/Direct Reports:
- This role reports to a Software Engineer Manager or Sr Manager.
- This position has no direct reports.
Physical Requirements:
- Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
Working Conditions:
- Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be eighteen years of age or older.
- Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
- Ability to commit to a 26-week full-time course (Monday to Friday during business hours).
Preferred Qualifications:
Seasoned Talent motivated to re-enter the workforce:
- Absent from the workforce for 2-5 years
- Prior experience acting as a Software Engineer II level or higher
- Ability to learn and adapt to new environments
