POSITION PURPOSE –
This position, Senior Analyst – Tax Systems, a part of the Indirect tax team, is responsible for supporting sales/use tax collection obligation. This includes responsibility for products and services taxability tools, tax calculation engines and customer exemption certificate management systems. This position will provide support for sales/use/GST/PST/QST tax audits, compliance, and new business initiatives.
MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES –
70% Tax Planning, Research, monitoring our systems and processes to ensure compliance in our tax collection obligations and provide support for Audit Defense as needed. May serve as principal contact on one or more projects with IT, governmental officials, outside counsel, and business partners. May lead or participate in special studies to determine Indirect Tax implications of company operations. May serve as liaison between SSC and frontline associates or external customers on tax related inquiries for our businesses in the US and internationally.
20% Participation on cross-functional teams as a subject-matter expert
10% Coaching and mentoring of associates in the department
NATURE AND SCOPE –
Reports to Tax Manager/Sr Tax Manager
No associates report to this role on a permanent basis but requires the leadership of a work group: assign and review work, train and contribute to performance appraisal (but not hiring, firing or disciplinary action). This position requires the ability to work in a team environment and adherence to deadlines.
ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS –
Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
Essential Skills: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS –
Must be eighteen years of age
Must pass the Drug Test
Must pass the Background Check
Must pass pre-employment tests if applicable.
EDUCATION REQUIRED –
The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.
YEARS OF RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE 3-6
PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS –
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS –
Demonstrate technical tax skills appropriate for the years of experience in Indirect tax space.
Demonstrate leadership and interpersonal skills, including the ability to manage and implement multiple complex projects, process management, and communications to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Proven records of data analytics and problem resolution skills.
High aptitude for new technology, process improvement and automation
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS –
CPA, CMI preferred
3-6 years’ experience preferred
Experience with Tax Engine (Vertex, Taxware SUT, AvaTax and SOVOS GTD)
Alteryx, Power BI, and Google Big Query experience preferred
Product and Services Taxability, Exemption Certificate Management, Tax Research and Accounting.
