Pay Range
The pay range for this position is between $82,000.00 – $130,000.00.
Starting wage may vary based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, the position being offered, location, education, training, and/or experience. The Home Depot offers additional competitive and non-financial benefits, which may include a performance-based bonus program or a profit sharing program depending on position.

The Manager Learning Design (MLD) leads and develops a team of instructional designers and manages the design & development process. The MLD is a learner advocate, thought leader, collaborator, and problem-solver. The MLD combines relentless passion and focus to deliver excellent customer service and creative solutions.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities, and Key Accountabilities
Team Leadership – 50%
- Identifies and ensures team capabilities by focusing on individual and team development
- Manages performance through effective coaching
- Manages the hiring and onboarding process
Program Management – 30%
- Collaborates with Learning Strategy Managers on learning needs and requests
- Develops resource plans, reviews status of projects, and develops contingency plans
- Provides support, guidance, and quality review to learning projects
- Oversees work plans of instructional designers throughout the development cycle
Process Implementation – 20%
- Drives creating processes, procedures, and templates that will result in effective learning solutions
- Utilize tools and processes to increase capacity and speed to market
Key Responsibilities:
- 40% Reviewing incoming training projects from merchants and SSC functional groups
- 20% Review and design realistic project plans
- 20% Manage the relationship between vendors, merchants, functional groups and 3rd party production crews
- 10% Must be able to influence across a large cross section of management and functional groups to ensure learning deliverables are successfully completed.
- 10% Assess training effectiveness by reviewing level 1 evaluation data and making changes based on feedback
Direct Manager/Direct Reports:
- Typically reports to a Director
- Position has direct reports
Travel Requirements:
- Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
Physical Requirements:
- Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
Working Conditions:
- Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be eighteen years of age or older.
- Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3 or more years’ experience managing a team to achieve organizational goals
- Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Human Resource Development, Organizational Behavior and Development, Industrial and Organizational Psychology, or related field
- Experience in education or learning-related field, or similar work experience
- Advanced knowledge of instructional design and adult learning theories
- Experience creating learning content that engages audiences using multiple modalities and learning approaches and how to adapt them to multiple contexts
- Ability to intuitively understand what the audience needs to know and how they should best consume it based on their context
- Strong passion for new learning technology tools
- Basic knowledge of media development tools and processes
- Ability to communicate and present information to various groups within THD
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Excellent interpersonal skills

- The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

Paid Time Off Benefits
Salaried associates are eligible for 2 weeks of vacation in their first year; FT hourly will be eligible for 40 hours of paid vacation time after 6 months of continuous service; (for positions in Washington State, Spokane, and Tacoma only) – Salary and Temporary associates will earn 1 hour of sick time for every 40 hours worked; FT associates will earn 1 hour of sick time for every 40 hours worked or 4 hours per month, whichever is greater; (for positions in Seattle only) – Salary and Temporary associates will earn 1 hour of sick time for every 30 hours worked; FT associates will earn 1 hour of sick time for every 30 hours worked or 4 hours per month, whichever is greater.
