Position Purpose:
The Director of Organizational Development is responsible for leading a team that develops, implements, and enhances solutions that drive organizational performance across the enterprise. This role serves as the organization's go-to person for effective change management, quality organization design, optimizing team effectiveness, and shaping leadership culture.
The Director of Organizational Development will build strong relationships with business leaders and leverage strong influence and execution skills to drive organizational capability to enable business strategy. This position will have visibility to senior leaders and will influence decisions related to talent and culture strategies.
The Director will work closely with other HR teams, specifically, the Organizational Effectiveness, Talent Management, and Learning & Development teams, to ensure that organization development solutions integrate with and optimize other talent initiatives. This position will use analytics and data to assess the effectiveness of organizational development initiatives and adjust plans as necessary to achieve desired results.
Key Responsibilities:
- 35% Change Management. Leads the company's change management efforts. Provides change management leadership and expertise for large-scale organizational initiatives. Ensures that the change management programs and tools are effectively utilized across the enterprise and trains and advises HR partners and business leaders on how to use them. Uses analytics and data to assess awareness, understanding, buy-in, and support of organizational changes.
- 25% Organization Design. Develops and leads the company's organization design practice including organization design methodologies, programs, tools, and resources. Creates strategies that identify organization and talent capabilities required in the future and develops an effective approach to address. Leads OD consultants in managing enterprise level organization design projects, and equips HR generalists with programs, tools, and resources to manage organization design projects for their client groups. Manages external OD consultants (if required) on behalf of business groups.
- 20% Organizational Development Strategy. Provides leadership, consultation, and guidance to the company on organizational development strategies. Understands the external and internal business landscape. Identifies opportunities to improve organizational performance and team alignment. Develops initiatives that shape the leadership culture and optimize the organization's agility, collaboration, and decision-making.
- 15% Team effectiveness. Diagnoses challenges impacting teams and individuals' ability to be successful and identifies appropriate solutions.
- 5% Executive Coaching. Engages in and manages programs for executive-level coaching. Manages a cohort of external executive coaches and ensures effectiveness of coaching engagements. Serves as a coaching expert and consultant to other teams for internal coaching programs such as mentoring and action learning.
Direct Manager/Direct Reports:
- This role reports to the HRVP – Talent Management & Development.
- This role has 3-10 direct reports.
Travel Requirements:
- Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
Physical Requirements:
- Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
Working Conditions:
- Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be eighteen years of age or older.
- Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree or Ph.D. preferred – in organizational development or related field.
- Experience developing and implementing customized organizational development solutions initiatives
- Experience leading significant organizational development transformations in a variety of settings
Minimum Education:
- The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a master's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

Hybrid – An associate in a hybrid role blends in-office and remote/virtual working to complete their job duties. An associate may be required to work from a designated Home Depot location on some days, and may work from a virtual/remote location on others. We also refer to this as location – flex.
Work From Home – Location Specific – An associate in this role primarily works from home but is assigned a THD location and is periodically required to report to their in-office location. Associates must live within the same state and within a commutable distance of their assigned THD location.
