Pay Range
The pay range for this position is between $80,000.00 – $180,000.00.
Starting wage may vary based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, the position being offered, location, education, training, and/or experience. The Home Depot offers additional competitive and non-financial benefits, which may include a performance-based bonus program or a profit sharing program depending on position.
Position Purpose:
The Sr. Software Engineer is responsible for independently developing and continuously enhancing platform services that support traffic management for The Home Depot's ecommerce platform. This includes designing, building, and optimizing traffic routing solutions and observability tools to ensure smooth and efficient traffic flow across the website. As a Sr. Software Engineer, you will work within an engineering-focused team that specializes in infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on building and supporting scalable, highly available platforms. You will have opportunities to shape technical direction, perform performance tuning, and improve production monitoring. Additionally, you will collaborate with team members to ensure the resilience and security of the systems, while mentoring less experienced engineers in best practices and technical growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- 50% Delivery and Execution – Develops, tests, deploys, and maintains software, with a clear understanding of the value the software is to provide; Takes on new opportunities and tough challenges with a sense of urgency, high energy and enthusiasm; Consistently achieves results, even under tough circumstances; Develops test suites (functional, destructive, etc) to enable success, rapid deployment of code to production; Takes a broad view when approaching issues; using a global lens

- 10% Supports and Enables – Helps grow junior engineers by providing guidance on modern software development frameworks, and leading technical discussions

Travel Requirements:
- No travel required.
Physical Requirements:
- Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
Working Conditions:
- Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be eighteen years of age or older.
- Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2-4 years of relevant work experience in software engineering or related fields.
- Proficiency in backend development with Golang (preferred), Java, and Spring Boot for building and enhancing platforms (service mesh, traffic management)
- Experience with cloud platforms such as GCP (preferred) and Azure (nice to have)
- Familiarity with traffic management and routing solutions (especially experience with traffic routing systems like Akamai)
- Experience with observability tools such as Grafana and Google Prometheus for monitoring and alerting
- Strong understanding of CI/CD tools and modern software design patterns for scalable and maintainable systems
- Familiarity with Relational and NoSQL database technologies.
- Knowledge of security frameworks for user and service authentication and authorization
- Experience in unit, functional, destructive, and performance testing to ensure high-quality and reliable software
- Proficiency with version control systems (e.g., Git)
- Awareness of third-party solutions (e.g., Akamai) used in traffic management and routing

- The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.
