Schedule: Monday – Friday 7:00AM to 3:30PM with a 30 Minute Lunch

Position Purpose:
The Lead Mechanic is a skilled technician, adept at performing a full range of advanced mechanical repairs on light construction equipment. Lead Mechanics diagnose, maintain and repair all components of rental equipment, including gas and diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, fuel systems, and brake systems. Examples of equipment maintained by these mechanics may include skid steers, chippers, trenchers, aerial equipment, and mini-excavators. This position reports directly to the next-level manager for their region.
The Lead Mechanic is also referred to as a Lead Rental Technician (LRT).
Key Responsibilities:
- 10% Communication – Communicates clearly with teammates including store associates, technicians, and customers in both verbal and written communications. Uses active listening in understanding message content and point of view in order to fully understand the mechanical problems being reported; Provides expert knowledge to all Rental associates in the proper operation of the equipment and standard operating procedures; Supports rental centers by explaining the large equipment program and addressing any store-specific issues; Provides support throughout the rental period for customers and rental associates, which may include providing best-in-class delivery; Adhere to all safety requirements particular to equipment including Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations
- 40% Compliance: Safety & Dept of Transportation – Deploys new equipment to store locations, including performing PDIs, delivering to the store, and training store associates on the safe operation of the equipment; Trains Home Depot store associates and customers in the proper operation of the equipment and large equipment operating procedures Deploys new equipment to store locations, including performing PDIs, delivering to the store, and training store associates on the operation of the equipment Typically requires overnight travel less than 15% of the time
- 50% Equipment Repairs – Responsible for maintaining a fleet of rental equipment; Diagnose, maintain, and repair all components of the machine, including gas and diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, fuel systems, and brake systems; Reviews Down Equipment Report and communicates with the leader to prioritize repairs and service calls; Obtains parts needed for repairs, while maintaining timely and accurate parts inventory; Utilizes company technology platform to document all work performed on equipment, including labor and parts; Performs tasks at store locations, company shop locations, and job sites; Performs other tasks assigned by the leader; Maintains vehicle compliance to company, federal and drivers standards of performance; Assists with equipment deliveries and pick-ups as required; Ability to lay out key action items in a logical sequence and recognize issues that may delay progress to reduce bottlenecks

Travel Requirements:
- Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
Physical Requirements:
- Must continuously stand or walk or regularly requires lifting/handling/carrying material or equipment of moderate weight (8-20 pounds).
Working Conditions:
- Usually in a comfortable environment but with regular exposure to factors causing moderate physical discomfort from such things as dust, fumes or odors.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be eighteen years of age or older.
- Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to diagnose and complete advanced mechanical repairs, including engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
- Ability to read and understand technical repair and parts manuals for equipment, including mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and other components.
- Experience and ability to provide superior customer service Working knowledge of handheld technology (smartphone, laptop, tablet) Ability to operate in extreme outdoor working conditions Valid driver's license in state applying
