The Shop Mechanic I – Large Equipment is responsible for basic repairs, preventative maintenance, pre-delivery inspections (PDI), and deployment of machines in the rental fleet. Examples of machines that they service may include earth-moving, aerial, landscaping, material handling, and more.
This mechanic is required to perform the regular preventative maintenance of equipment to ensure that it remains in rental-ready condition, and is less likely to experience breakdowns on the job site.
The Shop Mechanic I – Large Equipment is also referred to as the Shop Tech I.

Key Responsibilities:
- 10% Administrative Work – Documents all work performed on tablet technology, including completion of work orders to capture parts usage and labor, performing parts inventory counts, etc; Checks GPS units on equipment and ensures they are activated and properly checking in, and troubleshoots with IT team as needed; Rescues equipment from job sites as needed
- 20% Perform Inspections – Performs aerial lift inspections according to required checklist; Cleans equipment and trailers
- 30% Perform PMs and PDIs – Performs preventive maintenance (PMs) on equipment according to prescribed schedule/maintenance intervals; Performs pre-delivery inspections (PDIs) on equipment and trailers to ensure rental readiness prior to deploying to a store
- 30% Perform Troubleshooting & Repairs – Performs troubleshooting and repairs on small engines, including fuel systems, oil and air filtration systems, ignition systems, etc; Changes wheels, tracks, and tires on machines and trailers; Performs maintenance and repairs on trailers
- 10% Safety – Follows shop safety protocol, including proper storage of supplies and fuel, proper disposal of waste oils and fluids, and proper lifting and moving of materials and equipment; Safely operates forklift to load, unload, and move equipment and materials in the shop and yard

Travel Requirements:
- Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
Physical Requirements:
- Must continuously stand or walk or regularly requires lifting/handling/carrying material or equipment of moderate weight (8-20 pounds).
Working Conditions:
- Typically in a comfortable environment but with regular exposure to factors such as temperature extremes, moving machinery, loud noise, and fumes which cause noticeable discomfort or a moderate risk of accident or illness.

Onsite – An associate in an onsite role is required to work at a specific Home Depot location in order to complete their job duties. We also refer to this as location – dependent.
